A CNC machine shop where the cameras watch every machine.

This machining shop runs CNC and VTL machines. A supervisor can't stand at every machine all shift, so we're putting AI on the cameras they already have. It checks six things on the floor, rings the supervisor's phone when something needs attention, and keeps a clip of every issue.

Being installed Results will be shared once the system has run for a few months.

The problems

Machines left without an operator

An operator steps away and a running machine goes unwatched. Nobody knows how often it happens or for how long.

Phones and long chats at the machine

A few minutes on the phone or a long chat in a group adds up across a shift, and it's only noticed when someone happens to walk past.

Parts where they shouldn't be

Parts end up on walkways and outside their marked areas, and stacks sit untouched for days. 5S slips without anyone seeing it happen.

Chips that pile up

Chip removal gets skipped when the floor is busy, until it becomes a cleaning job and a safety risk.

What we're building

01

Operator at the machine

Every machine knows whether its operator is there, and for how long it has been left.

02

Phone use

Minutes on the phone at the machine, measured against an allowance per shift that the owner sets.

03

Gatherings

People talking in a group for longer than the set limit.

04

Parts in the wrong place

Parts on walkways or outside their marked storage areas.

05

Parts left too long

Each stack gets an ID and a photo, and the system tracks how long it has sat without moving.

06

Chip removal

Checks that chips are cleared as often as the owner's settings require.

One issue, start to finish

  1. The camera sees it. An operator has used up their phone allowance for the shift and is still on the phone at the machine.
  2. The floor hears it. After 30 seconds the factory PC raises an issue and announces it on the shop-floor speaker, in Kannada, Marathi or Hindi.
  3. The supervisor's phone rings. Within about 15 seconds it rings like a call and keeps ringing until they tap Acknowledge.
  4. A clip is saved. It covers the whole moment, from 10 seconds before to 10 seconds after.
  5. The owner sees the full picture. The issue, the clip, how fast it was handled, and the machine's score, on the web dashboard.

Built for the shop floor

Runs on the cameras and PC they have

No new cameras. The AI runs on the factory's existing PC and is capped so the PC's other work always comes first.

Video stays in the factory

The PC does the watching. Only issues, scores and short clips go online.

Keeps working offline

If the internet drops, the checks, announcements and clips carry on, and everything syncs once it's back.

A person always decides

No face recognition: the operator assigned to the machine gets the issue. Every issue is a clip for a supervisor to review, never an automatic finding.
